February 2006

  • February 10-12, 2006 - Gateway Garden Railroad Club Winter Meet - Large Scale Train Lovers:

Four years ago, Gateway Garden Railroad Club members decided that February would be a good time for a large scale train meet. Everyone has cabin fever by then and is ready to run some trains. With the help of other club members the Gateway Garden Railroad Winter Meet was born.

Every February the town of Carlyle, Illinois becomes ground zero for a gathering of Large Scale Train Lovers from all over the Midwest (those outside the Midwest are welcome too). This meet is about running trains, building friendships, and learning from each other, not making money. What little is charged is to defer some of the expenses incurred by the Gateway Garden Railroad Club.

Everything is convenient. The Microtel Inn (where most attendees will stay, reasonably), the indoor convention center (where the meet is held) and a great country restaurant (where you will never under eat or pay too much) are all within 100 yards of each other. Other facilities (restaurants, stores, motels) are available in the area.

There will be a few vendors for the convenience of the attendees. The amount of space allocated to vendors is strictly limited to allow plenty of space for layouts (where you can run your train), clinics, and work areas. We encourage attendees to bring things to run and pull. We want to share your handy work!
