An ammeter is a device used to measure current flow in a circuit. Required to determine the current draw of a locomotive prior to installing a decoder.
An ammeter is installed in series with the load. (A voltmeter is installed in parallel). One application is to install one between the power supply and a booster to measure current demanded by the layout.
