Either type is suitable.
For most applications stranded wire is the better choice. Stranded wire is flexible, allowing it to be pulled and routed easily in the confines of the benchwork.
Solid wire will work, but more care is required when handling it. Stripping the insulation can result in nicks in the conductor, creating a failure point. If the wire is repeatedly flexed it will break at that point.
Solid wire does not lend itself to using insulation displacement connectors such as ScotchLoks, or crimped on terminals. It is useful for track feeders.
Whichever wire type you choose, stick with copper.
