The User Identifiers #1 and #2, CV 105 and 106, are defined in the NMRA RP-9.2.2 as optional. Your decoder may not include them.

These CVs are reserved for use by the owner, who can store identification info in there such as NMRA membership number, to aid in determining ownership, etc.

Two Bytes of User Information

Each of these CVs can hold a value of 0 through 255 (decimal), and can be used to identify anything the user would like to keep track of. These CVs don't control anything on the decoder.

Applications

The following is a list of ideas on the use of the "user information" fields.

For Clubs

Club members can use this to keep track of which loco belongs to who.

For example, a club can keep a roster of club members. Each member is assigned a different number from 1 through 255. Each club member programs his/her number into the specified CV. Now, anytime there is a question about who a loco belongs to, all that needs to be done is read the value in that CV.

This, however, should not be used as an absolute indicator of ownership.
